The Indian national Congress ruled through the fifties, but there was a gradual shift being seen in the sixties. Newer leaders and ideologies captured both regional governments as well as people’s imaginations. Importantly, the third general election coincided with another important year in Indian history, that of the Sino-Indian conflict.
